Design dilemma: I need help with mid-century modern overhead lighting

March 29, 2017

Okay people. I need help solving a design dilemma in my new house: overhead lighting.
I went big on a couple statement chandeliers …. one over the dining room table (this mid-century guy from West Elm) and two that hang over the kitchen island (these bold chandeliers from CB2). But I have two other spots that require lighting, and whatever I put there needs to hang from a sloped ceiling.
What do I do to avoid a maze of pendant lights? There’s no attic space for recessed lighting and a flush-mounted light would look weird hanging at an angle. Help!

What about a floor lamp or two in the living room seating area??? Tuck one in the corner behind the couch, adjacent to the front door. And then possibly a second, matching floor lamp on the opposite side of that window. (I have a similar set up and used an extension cord under the couch and a step-on light switch to turn them both on simultaneously.) Choose something sleek and modern that doesn't compete with your hanging fixtures and then get rid of the hanging IKEA fixture altogether…As for the light over the front door entry, getting a matching fixture to the ones that you showed in the hallway isn't a bad idea! Or something a bit more minimal and in a matching finish to the hanging lights. I can picture a single globe light, as if you were able to steal just one globe light off of the clusters over the island. That's my two cents! luck!!!
